A personal path into veterinary medicine.
My journey into veterinary medicine did not begin with a career plan. It began when I was twelve, with a simple wish to better understand and care for my dog, Ruby.
Over time, that personal motivation grew through veterinary school, military service, mentors, patients, and the animals and people I met along the way.
Currently a Small Animal Surgical Intern at the Ontario Veterinary College.

01 · WHY VETERINARY MEDICINE

It started with Ruby.

At twelve, I did not yet understand what a veterinary career would involve. I only knew that I wanted to understand what Ruby needed and how I could help her. That simple wish gradually became something larger: an interest in the trust animals place in us, the responsibility that comes with caring for them, and the knowledge required to turn concern into meaningful action.
02 · A TURNING POINT
The path was not always direct.

A pause
The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the path I had expected to follow and gave me time to reconsider what veterinary medicine meant to me.
2021-2022
Service
I stepped away from veterinary school and served as a medic in the Republic of Korea Army. It became an unexpected but formative chapter grounded in responsibility, discipline, and teamwork.
AFTERWARDS
Returning with intention
When I returned to veterinary medicine, I carried back a clearer understanding of how I wanted to learn, contribute, and respond when circumstances were uncertain.
03 · WHY SURGERY
Why surgery felt right to me.
Mentors in veterinary surgery and surgical oncology showed me that surgery is not simply a technical act. It asks for preparation, sound judgement, honest communication, and responsibility for what happens before and after an operation.
I am drawn to that combination of precision and reflection. It is also why I continue to document what I learn rather than present the journey as already complete.

04 · LIFE WITH IF
The constant beside me.
If entered my life unexpectedly during a cross-country journey in 2017. Her name reflects the unlikely way she appeared. Like the concept of life itself, she appeared seemingly out of nowhere, yet has remained a constant presence ever since. She dislikes swimming, startles easily, and would happily fetch for far longer than I would. Beyond the hospital and the next professional milestone, she is a reminder of the ordinary companionship at the heart of veterinary medicine.
